According to a report on WTVD News, the women were driving home from a nearby party, where earlier the driver had been involved in some kind of altercation.

The driver lost control of her Pontiac SUV near her home, went off the right side of the road, hit a tree and spun around before coming to rest in a ditch. The victim, from Bailey, N.C., died at the scene. The driver was transported to WakeMed following the wreck and then transported to the Wake County jail. She has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, driving without a license or registration and failure to maintain lane control. She was also charged with was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon for the earlier incident.

North Carolina Injury Lawyer Perspective:

The investigators in this case say that the driver was clearly driving well beyond the 25 mph posted speed limit. That combined with alcohol led to this terrible tragedy. Even though the driver has been criminally charged, the victim’s family should contact a North Carolina wrongful death attorney to find out what civil liability the driver is accountable for in the death of her friend.
